Guide to Power Plates

Power plates are the power ups of this game: the boomerang, the spread gun, the double jump if you will. The non-linearity of this game allows you to choose the order you unlock each of these powers. The following is a list of the powers sorted from most interesting to least interesting.

If you are playing this game and think thing that you might only play half of it, I would suggest unlocking the ones on the top of the list

Breath of Ormazd (Green Plate)

The green plate allows the princess, and the prince who is holding her, to walk up the walls. It is not free-wheeling walk through. Each plate is at the start of a long, winding track in which you must dodge left and right to avoid the obstacles in the path. I have read that the implementation of tis power is very similar to the one in the Sonic games (which I have never played). I would recommend getting this power first because it is the most intresting of the four.
Levels unlocked by activating this power:
- Construction Yard (The Vale)
- Heaven's Stair (The Vale)
- Tower of Ormazd ( (City of Light)
- Queen's Tower (City of Light)

Wings of Ormazd (Yellow Plate)

The yellow plate resembles the flying scene from Superman 1 except that Elika is flying and the prince is the one holding on for dear life. As she soars over the map, you must dodge up, down, left, or right to avoid the obstacles that pass by. As cool as that may sound, you really are not controlling the flying and it is hard to determine how close you are to hitting the walls that are zooming past. In the end, the effect feels like you are fake reacting to a blue screen.

In fact, it reminds me of that Nick Arcade show in which kids would duck and wave their arms to react to objects going on behind them on a blue screen. At least the designers had the good graces to make Elika fly on her own volition instead of the more-than-slightly insensitive option of putting them on a flying carpet. Despite complaining about it, I would opt to activate this power second (after the green plate) just because it is a lot more fun than the red or blue plates.

- Citadel
- Royal Palace

Step of Ormazd (Red Plate)

The red plate is just a super long jump that flicks Elika and the prince to the other side of the room. That's it. In fact, I can't tell the difference between this plate and the blue one except that when you use the blue plate, the two of them are hanging on to this blue squiggly thing.
- Citadel
- Reservoir
- Machinery Ground

Hand of Ormazd (Blue Plate)

I can't tell if this is a grapple hook or some sort of upside down Christmas tree that they are hanging on to but activating this plate sends the two adventurers swinging to the wall on the other side of the room. Maybe they are hanging on to a kite? I would save this power until later. It isn't that much fun.
- City of Light
- Tower of Ahriman
- Spire of Dreams
- Royal Spire
